Weirdly Shaped and Well Photographed

… a blog about clothing for curves, bras for giant boobs (and tiny backs!), and escaping the scourge of the dreaded BoobLoaf and ButtChest.

A Mostly Unapologetically Photo-Filled Re-Entry Into the Blogosphere.

BIRTHDAY SELFIE ALERTphoto 3

Hello there, Gentle Readers!  Did you think I had forgotten you?  I could never forget you.  I think of you every day.  Thinking isn’t writing, however, and so I have been egregiously absent, for which I apologize.  You see, my birthday was a week and a half ago, and between some trips and out of town guests and such before and after it, I just haven’t had any time to do, well, anything else.  So I thought that while I’m regrouping and prepping the next post here, I would take a break from my normal reviews and informational posts to do something a little more personal.  Here then is a quick journey in pictures (a lot of pictures, actually, so maybe not so quick – bandwidth hoarders beware) through my last few weeks: Continue Reading →

Incredibly Exciting Interview: Edwards & Millers Lingerie!

A preview image from the Edwards & Millers upcoming launch!

A preview image from the Edwards & Millers upcoming launch!

Why hello there, Gentle Readers!  I apologize for my extended absence; yesterday was my birthday and I took much of last week for related festivities (Disneyland! Universal Studios! The Pin Up Girl Boutique and Unique Vintage!) and will probably be doing a fair amount of the same as this week goes on; I’m a birthday week/month kind of girl.  But I did want to pop in and share some exciting information with you in the midst of all the merriment: there’s a new lingerie company starting up specifically for women with small backs and large boobs!  WEIRDLY SHAPED WIN!  Edwards & Millers is definitely the most exciting new company to come out for people of my shape in, well… ever, maybe.  The intrepid Izabela at Voluptuously Thin beat me to the punch on interviewing the company’s founder, Tracy, and covered a lot of the basics in her post about the launch of the brand, and then The Curves Have It did a lovely follow-up that covered some more personal questions, so I’m going to go ahead and let you take a moment to check out their excellent interviews so you can get your basic information down.  (Go ahead, I will wait here.)  Luckily, with something this exciting, there is always more to find out, and Tracy was kind enough to grant me an interview.  Read on to find out more about what is going into designing this specialized line and what we can expect to see from the release in the fall.  Oh, and for those of you who did not follow instructions and read the interviews listed above (tsk tsk!), here’s a VERY basic rundown:

Edwards & Millers is a company launching this fall making lingerie for Big Breast Small Back (BBSB) women, and will have a size range of 26-34 DD-M(!!!).  Their founder wears 28K, so she is personally familiar with the challenges women in our sizes face, and she is seeking to help us all out with this new range.  As their website states, “The collection seeks to give women ‘That Icon Status’ through supportive and beautiful underwear, combining corsets, shape-wear including bras, girdles, waspies, knickers and thongs, combining iconic shapes with inspiration from Jamaican tradition.”  For the rest, check out the other interviews and then read mine below!

Happy Fourth of July! Wait, it’s the fifth now? Oops….

Yes, that is a bandaid on my thumb, and yes, it has a picture of Statler and Waldorf from the Muppets on it.

Not sure why I feel like this sailor hat is good for the Fourth of July… But whatever.

Well, gentle readers, I’m getting this post out a little later than planned, but to my dear fellow U.S.A.ians, happy fourth of July/Independence Day, and to everyone else, also happy fourth of July/not Independence Day!  I hope however we feel about the U.S., that we will all celebrate true independence of thought and take a moment to reflect on ethics, history, human rights, and how education, awareness, and dissent can fit into patriotism.  With a mind cognizant of the many improvements to be made in the U.S., both in government and society, I am still happy to say that I feel lucky to be a U.S. citizen, and that I am grateful for the many benefits it gives me to be so.  But this blog isn’t about the way my heart swells with thoughts of purple mountains’ majesty and amber waves of grain (and N.Y. pastrami), it’s about clothing, so I wanted to give you a short and much more casual than usual review of a dress I love.

A while ago, a lovely friend of mine who is the blogger behind Braless in Brasil and I discovered we had a dress in common and thought we might review it together to give two perspectives at once.  She is much more on the ball than I am and had hers done a while ago, but I, in classic Miss Shapen fashion, just couldn’t seem to find the right moment for it.  Then this morning I was looking for a red, white, and blue outfit (if there is even a smidge of a reason to dress according to theme, I will find it) and my eyes fell on this dress.  Perfect!  I decided to wear it, ask a friend to photograph it on his phone, and see where the day took us.  As it happened, it took us to a cupcake shop… And you can see what fun that was after the jump.  Don’t forget to check out the review from Braless in Brasil when you’re done!  Her blog is wonderful, and I think it’s great to see two different women in the same dress (and even the same size!); it gives a much better view of the overall fit and what shapes are from the dress vs. what shapes are from the person wearing it.  But onwards!

Happy 10th Anniversary to Brastop.com, and a Special Surprise for You, Gentle Readers!

Brastop-LogoGentle readers, I confess: it was always my plan to do a mix of reviews and Other Informative Things (OITs from here on out) in the ol’ brog, but life got a bit in the way. Other than my post for The Modesty Panel, the OITs have been pretty much non-existent. I think it’s time to remedy that, and I’d like to start it off on a cheerful foot with a celebration of the ten-year anniversary of a great resource for busty ladies: Brastop.com. I’m mainly sized out now, but until recently, I bought almost all of my bras there. They have great prices, frequent sales, and excellent customer service, including the handling of returns from overseas. I am lucky enough to have made the acquaintance through the blogosphere of a lovely lady named Chloe who works with Brastop on their blog (read her latest post, a review of the Curvy Kate Emily Balconette Bra in Nude, here!), and she agreed to do an interview with me to commemorate ten years of bra goodness and to talk about what is in store (*snickers* get it?).  I’ve also interspersed some of my favorite current offerings, but wait to buy till you see the surprise at the end of the post…

Without further ado:

The PA, the Bitch, and the Wardrobe: A Review of DD Atelier’s Amazonia Dress

The Evil Queen

Gentle readers, I beg your indulgence.  I did a photoshoot for this absolutely fabulous dress, the Amazonia by DD Atelier, with the intention of telling a bit of a story in my review.  Then as the shoot went on and even more as I looked at the pictures, I realized that really we had taken a photo essay, and that a true integration of story and review would do disservice to them both.  Sometimes things take on lives of their own, and this brog has been such a lovely creative journey for me…  So here’s what I propose.  From time to time, I want to change up the format of posts a little.  Whenever I do that, I will make sure to incorporate a bit about the clothing in question in whatever I’m writing, and there will always be a to-the-point review at the end, so if you just want to check out the pictures and get the details, you’ll know where to look.  And for those of you who want to join me as I explore a bit… Thank you.  It’s lovely to have you along.  The brog has grown so much since its inception (just under three months ago!), and I imagine it will continue to evolve with time, as all artistic endeavors do.  Not that this is high art or anything, but it is nurtured by my creative spirit (and insatiable desire to dress up and be silly).  So yes.  I gave you a letter, and now a fairy tale, and what comes next only time will tell.  The bulk of the posts will probably be the same as ever, reviews with a bit of a theme, but I hope you all will be with me in my pursuit of something different now and again.  And of course, please remember that these are all characters, and their actions and such do not reflect the views of The Management.  Even if The Management does enjoy acting out a bit every now and again.  And now… the story.
